Playing with Babies

Feeding the Baby

Covering the baby up with a blanket.

Apparently the baby is sleeping because Lydia then walked off and started playing with her car...

BUT she came back to her baby to dress the baby.

We did have to throw the baby to the floor before dressing it though.

Chunky Crayons

I had a BIG bag of yucky crayons (no paper, chewed on by random children over the years, pieces, and basically just no fun to play with). So on yet another 105 degree day and needing to find something fun to do with the one year old, we made crayons!

Lydia's Translation of How We Made Crayons...

Step One: Dump crayons out. Toss them all over the living room. Play fetch with them. Chew on them. Hide them. Oh, and let your trusty big person tear the paper off and break them into more chew-able sizes.
"Really, Mom I get to finish tearing up these crayons?"
Step Two: Take a long nap. (It is hot outside, so might as well...)

Step Three: Wake up and ta-da there are new toys!

Step Four: Sorry, peeps. Too busy - had my staff take care of "Step Four" for you.

I tried but just too big to get into my mouth...

How observant is my husband...

Today is our 5th Anniversary. (Half a decade!). SO...

Half a Cake. And half a dozen cupcakes.
Oh, and an entire dinner of "half" things! hehe (I promise I have plenty to do in my life but today is a special day!)

He knows that today is our anniversary BUT will he connect the dots that we have been married half a decade???

It's a Monday

James has worked from home for several years so Saturdays have been much like any other day (get up, do the breakfast thing, James goes downstairs to work, Lydia and I have a normal day, dinner time we spend together, time with dad after dinner, James goes back to work, and Lydia goes to bed). Sundays we go to church in the morning but then the afternoon is the same as every other afternoon (other than I may take a nap!).

James started his new job last week. So we had our first weekend in a long time without work. WOW! I know why people enjoy the weekends (I have always kinda dreaded them to be honest - more of the same but without the luxury of mom and baby things to do - activities are much more family orientated on the weekend).

This weekend, there was no work outside of the house to be done. Saturday was an all day play day. Sunday we went to church and got to nap in the afternoon.

James had the opportunity to be bored (he even unloaded the dishwasher!). Lydia had the opportunity to play with dad. I had the opportunity for a break!!!!!

BUT now it is Monday and I realize why people say "It's a Monday". Lydia is missing her dad (let's face it I can't drop everything to play with her every time she whines - with two parents caring for the baby she got every need met in record time!). After the whirlwind of activities, one of us is a bit tired and whining.

With the memories of theweekend still fresh in both of our minds, we are both just a bit sad. So we are going to make this Monday memorable and go play in the pool - tough life but somebody has to do it!

We have a WALKER!

We have a walker. Guess what, I am not at all sad about this. I know many people are devastated when the baby grows up (and then baby fever strikes - do not fear there is NO baby fever in this house!).

But I really think crawling is disgusting. Let's face it, the baby uses his or her hands as the main mode of independent transportation. And then these same little hands feed them selves. And pick up and chew on toys. And touch other people. GROSS! My floors can not be clean enough for this activity. So needless to say, I am cheering that we are now using our feet as a mode of transportation. It is rare that feet go in our mouth (occasionally apparently the desire hits to chew on toes - maybe they taste good after all!).

Taking Steps

Guess the pantry wasn't child proofed after all!

July Updates

So much has happened in July thus far!

July 4th was hot. So we stayed cool by playing in the pool and eating Popsicles!

Lydia is officially weaned (hurray!!!!!!). In celebration, I got myself a blended coffee. According to James, that was mean to eat that in front of the baby (let's not forget she has been eating in front of me for MONTHS!). All that to say, James gave Lydia ice cream.

Lydia and James got accepted to State (let's face it we will ALL be making sacrifices for James acceptance!)

Basically July has been exhausting for us all!
