Our Week

Cute picture uh? Let me tell you the back story on this cute picture. Lydia has been counting down the days for Daddy Daughter Date Night at Chick-fil-A since last February. Every couple weeks she asks about Daddy Daughter date night (yes, James and Lydia go out on dates often!). I registered for this event, Lydia marked it on her calendar, I wrote it in my calendar, and we are all counting down the nights to Daddy Daughter Date Night. Lydia even has a special outfit picked out.

SO anyway I was fixing dinner and texting with my mom. Bouncing Isaac. We had been outside all day long. The inside of the house has been totally neglected. James and Lydia are running through the house playing chase. Every outside toy is in the yard. Laundry is halfway done. My mom then texts and asks for pictures of Date night. I text her back that date night is tomorrow night. My mom texts me to tell me to double check. So I continue fixing dinner and also double check. Oh my!!!! Daddy Daughter Date Night starts in 35 minutes!!!!! Needless to say in a matter of 9 minutes (yes, 9 minutes) James and Lydia get out the door. And yes, they were on time, had a wonderful time, and Lydia is counting down the days until next date night.

Moral of the story: the calendar only works if you write events in the correct box :)

But that was pretty much the way my week went. I really did not take pictures. We did have fun playing outside. Played toys in the basement. Lydia went through enough paper that I think 2 trees probably sacrificed their lives for her enjoyment.

Pink bath tub and ball is a totally manly kind of activity!

"INCLUDE ME"

Isaac has a new trick. Lydia has a new trick. Add the tricks together and well, James and I just laugh!

Isaac's trick: anybody talks to Lydia and he cries. Real genuine tears. Pulls at your heart strings. The first time he did it I really thought something was wrong. After several days of this, well the gig is over little man ;)

Lydia's trick: Isaac pulls his new trick and Lydia can be way more dramatic.

James and I have decided that both kids really need to learn that they are both equal and we are all apart of this family. This looks good on paper and it is a work in progress (probably will be easier when the developmental differences are not so great but...). When Isaac is awake and happy - you know that entire 30 - 45 minutes - we try to do something with both kids. Anyway, this was just a cute picture and both kids were sooooo happy to be reading together. Isaac isn't quite stable on the couch and Lydia is very into the take turns sitting in mom or dad's lap so we are including Isaac even though it looks like not!

Happy 4 Months!

Isaac is officially 1/3 of the way through his first year of life. We are enjoying his baby days but really really really looking forward to playing! James is eager to play chase and run like crazy people through the woods. I am looking forward to interacting with this little man. We are seeing glimpses of his personality and I think Isaac is going to keep us laughing ;)

We let him sit on the trampoline this week (no bouncing!!). We were outside playing with Lydia and well holding 17lbs of baby is hard so he got to lay on the trampoline and look at the sky (well really chew on his hands and watch Lydia play!).

Isaac is up to 17lbs and 9oz. He is 26.5 inches. 95% percentile for both height and weight. Can we say quarterback???

Happy Friday

Lydia is really really into making beautiful artwork and then giving said artwork to people. Usually people she knows but not always.

Friday night we ordered dinner from Pei Wei and Lydia decided that she needed to give a picture to the Pew Wei staff. Originally she had given me her artwork and I was supposed to take said artwork to the store and give it to the staff by myself. I convinced her to go with me ;)

As we were driving in the car I asked her what she was going to say when she gives the staff her picture. (Usually she gives the picture, giggles, and hides behind my legs!).

Lydia: I will tell them Happy Birthday
DeAnna: What if today isn't their birthday?
Lydia: Looooooooong pause. Ummmmmmm
DeAnna: Could you tell them I made you a special picture and tell them about the picture?
Lydia: No that is silly.
DeAnna: ok then what could you tell them that isn't silly?
Lydia: I will tell them Happy Friday!

We get to the store. She remembers said picture and proudly walks into the store. Lydia stands on tip toe to slide the picture across the counter and announces "Happy Friday because it isn't your birthday". I was super thankful for a staff member who was all about looking at the beautiful picture on a busy Friday night!

After we had our food and we are walking out the door Lydia turns around to announce to the store - hand on her hip and finger pointing, "Do NOT throw my picture away".

As we were driving home, Lydia reminded me about her strong personality. I hadn't seen her strong personality in a negative way in awhile so she caught me a bit off guard. But she is really cute anyway ;)

Lydia: sitting in the car wearing every necklace she could find in the car (doesn't everybody keep their best jewels tucked in corners of the car???)
"I will NOT wear my shoes".
DeAnna: That is fine. How do you think your feet will feel walking outside with out shoes?
Lydia: cold
DeAnna: I would think so. It rained today too. Do you think your feet might get wet?
Lydia: I will NOT wear my shoes.
DeAnna: Lydia that is perfectly fine. I need to carry the food inside so I won't be able to carry you inside.
Lydia: My feet will get muddy.
DeAnna: Your choice.
Lydia: And cold.
DeAnna: Still your choice. I am choosing to wear my shoes.
Lydia: I will NOT wear my shoes.
DeAnna: ok but I am finished with this conversation. What would you like to talk about now?
Lydia: arms crossed and declares once again - I will NOT wear my shoes.
DeAnna: turns the music on and continues driving while the 3 year old fumes that she was unable to pick a fight with her mom.

We pull into the driveway and Lydia makes her declaration once again. Once again I say ok. Lydia reminds me her feet will get cold and muddy. I remind her it is her choice and tell her we have washcloths to wash muddy feet. I take the food inside and take the trash out. Lydia is very gingerly walking into the house (the girl does not like cold or dirty feet!). Lydia then catches my eye before coming inside and reminds me she will NOT wear shoes. I agree to this. Lydia then stomps her feet in the sand pile by the front door with a gleam in her eye. I know deep down she is thinking "come on Mom fight with me!!!!!". She comes inside and I ask her to stay on the rug and give her a washcloth wet with hot water. 20 minutes later the sweetest little girl comes to join us at the table for dinner. Apparently her clean feet were still cold ;)

Our Week

Valentine Party!
Lydia has really enjoyed all things Valentine Day this year. ALLOT! She read a book about a Valentine party and being all about a party anyway saw this as a perfect excuse for a party. So she invited several friends and had a party (i.e play time and snacks!).

Preparing for her guests - yes she dressed for the occasion!

SNOW! Days and days and days of snow.

Just let me eat people. I don't care about snow.

"Lydia I want to be just like you!"

We built a house with 40 blocks.

We built a house with 40 marshmallows (yes, I was running out of ideas!).

We destroyed our houses with 80 objects!

It is snowing again!!!!!!! I thought if I started taking pictures I could remember why next snow storm I want to go on vacation. Far away ;)

We made Valentine pretzel crunch.

Isaac rolled over.

We even celebrated Valentines Day while snowed in!

AND then we finally saw the sun, melting, and escaped from our four walls!!!!!!

Lydia has been wanting to learn to vacume. I have been procrastinating (the one chore that I have to do while both kids are awake - to be able to do this one in 5 minutes is necessary).

Isaac is now able to get 7 fingers in his mouth. Milestones I say!

And I think this picture is hilarious. No idea why my very happy baby was so distraught but I thought it would be nice to remember the moment with a picture.

Car Seat Promotion!

Isaac is quickly outgrowing his infant carrier (yes, he is a big baby!). We debated back and forth but ended up just moving Lydia to a booster seat with a seat belt. She is also tall and is so excited with this new development! Isaac can inherit Lydia's old car seats.

Lydia's booster seat installed in the cars without a problem.

Isaac's convertible seat rear facing seat has left us scratching our heads. So his seats are sitting in the basement (and he is the one who really needed a promotion!).

Buckled up and happy!
