Lydia's Work

I did not think that Lydia did much of her work last week (beautiful weather again!!!!) but I was totally wrong. We must have just been home allot ;)

Admiring her favorite posters. Everybody needs favorite art work to display right???

I have noticed Lydia has started coloring in the lines and being more precise about which colors she uses and coloring objects the "right colors". So we tried a color by number and this was a huge success (I think by the end of the week we had done several color by numbers - so for the sake of our printer I need to find a color by number coloring book!).

Sometimes an artist needs to stand up!

Look I can write "A".

Another color by number ;)

I realized Lydia had done allot of coloring sheets on creation. So we made a fun book that she can read "all by myself".

I got a tickle out of watching her cut with scissors and being so focused that her foot was all tense. Sometimes the humor is hard to find in a day I guess!

A project all about nice vs. ugly ways to talk to people. It was a very fitting and appropriate discussion that we needed one afternoon....

Ballerina Goes on a Safari

Lydia has a friend who is a five year old little boy. And ALL boy! It has taken years but the two finally play well together - or they have come to terms with the fact that they will be together from time to time and tolerate each other.

Lydia's friend invited her to his party and she was soooooo excited to go to her "best friend's birthday" (because we are so dramatic that EVERYBODY is our best friend!). I asked Lydia what she would like to give her friend for a present (mind you this is a five year old little boy). Lydia's response without hesitation "he needs a baby doll. Do you know he doesn't have any baby dolls?". Lydia and I talked about if her friend has ever played with her baby dolls. No he has not. So we decided to think about something else her friend might like. "He needs pretend food. He doesn't even have a kitchen and he does play with my kitchen.". I surrendered on that one. But we had many conversations over the coming days about what her friend might actually play with at his house. And eventually Lydia came up with some good ideas and we went shopping.

And then party day came.

DeAnna: Today is your party day.
Lydia: (dances around the house) I am going to be a ballerina. And I need my hat. I will take my baby doll to share.
DeAnna: You are going to be playing outside and the party theme is a safari. So animals and playing in the jungle is what the party will be all about.
Lydia: I will wear my boots too!
DeAnna: (surrenders on everything but the hat and this is what Lydia wears to the birthday party with allot of little boys!

Tutu, cowBOY boots, ballerina shirt

The baby doll was left at home because "I don't really want to share". I did not have the heard to tell her that none of the little boys would be interested in her baby doll but...

Has it been mentioned that a baby brother will rock her world??? But this little boy will never have to worry about clothes because Lydia has all his outfits already picked out for him - including accessories!

Baby's Crib

The little girl and her Daddy put together a crib. Lydia was quite excited for a couple days. She has now decided the crib is in the way (and I have to agree with her as the baby's room is still my office too!).

Sand

"Mom will you play in the sand for me? I really don't want to get my hands dirty."

Lydia's "Work"

Last week, Lydia "worked" on a combination of activities and games. I think it is hilarious that she is so determined that she "works from home".

Making a poster with her new Bible verse. We learned all about telling the truth ;)

Lydia has enjoyed doing her "homework" in the evenings - after dinner. I have no idea where she has come up with this but she makes a huge display of telling me that if her friends knock on the door then she can not play because she needs to do her homework. She then pulls out James Bible and sits at the counter to do her "homework". So far she seems to know all the answers and doesn't need any help with her homework. Maybe she will need help as the school year progresses ;)

We also re-discovered our love of puzzles. Since we couldn't leave the puzzle out for her Dad to see we sent him pictures at work.

Lydia has been struggling with the colors blue and green and she willingly played several games that involved blue and green. I would like to say that 3/4 of the time she gets blue and green correct!

Painting a special gift bag for her brother's present. I think her brother may change our world and maybe I will not let him paint on carpet in nice clothes...

Marbles Fun!

We just got a free Monday morning to go to Marbles during their "group free" time. Oh what a treat! Lydia played and played and played and thoroughly enjoyed the small crowd of people. She usually is overwhelmed with the huge group of people and only plays 2 - 2.5 hours. But she totally could have played longer - next time we will go earlier!

We were playing and I didn't take pictures but I did need to be an audience (and got to sit down for a moment!). A glimpse at the inner workings of Lydia's brain.

The CowBOY Ballerina (there is no such thing as cowgirls incase you are wondering).

The best part about Marbles - an exhausted little girl!

Random Pictures

Lydia was SO excited to see her Dad one night last week. She ran and cheered for him. Was so eager to see and play with him. It is like her mom had not played with her at all that day ;)

I have heard it said that small car owners don't realize that they have small cars. When I found a cheap sand box, bought it, and then squished into my car I then remembered "oh, Lydia is with me!". I thought the picture was comical and thankfully the drive home was short with many green lights!

Oh, thank you Aunt Jessica and Uncle Robert! Lydia loves her wand (her parents are still undecided and I think her baby brother will be terrified of the wand!). The wand does equal lots of dancing and prancing through the house which is super cute.

Lydia's Projects

Between re-adjusting to non-vacation life and getting home in the middle of the week we did not do many projects last week. BUT life did calm down a bit and Lydia "needed" to do some work too.

Lydia still has the colors green and blue mixed up in her head. So we decided to do some "green" things.

Added some icecream scoops to her icecream cone.

Decorated the number One

With TWO dot paint markers (that just hit my funny bone - Lydia did not see the humor!).

Trying our hand at painting inside lines.

Which Lydia did fantastic with!

Day Four of Creation, God created the stars, moon, and sun...

And we made some stars, moon, and a sun. Cute idea and took allot of "mom" help cutting stars!
