The Mind of An Almost Three Year Old

We have a little issue in our house of tearing up books. Accidental - maybe and maybe not. Irritating YES! Somehow, this discussion came up yet again. We will leave the details out of the story for privacy sake! Anyway, after the situation was over and the book repaired I asked Lydia to take the book back to my office (because books can't be left in Lydia's room!).

Lydia obeyed and came back with this remark. "I don't like tearing books up. Not my choice to do it".
DeAnna: "Mom and Dad work hard to make money to buy you books. It makes us sad when you choose to tear the book up".
Lydia: "I think you should choose to not be sad when I tear books up".
DeAnna: Speechless and wisely Lydia chose "to go play in the basement".

Long Weekend Yard Work

What does that Stojan family do with a three day weekend? Yard work. Kinda pitiful since we don't really enjoy it... But we were productive and I think for a couple hours our little piece of land will be weed free.

The worst jungle - before!

The Jungle After Day One

Still work to do but after a year of the front yard being very easy to maintain we are ready to commit to making the back yard the same way!!!!!!

M is for Mouse

I introduced Lydia to glitter. Since that introduction, I have found glitter in the dishwasher, beds, bath tubs, and well, basically EVERYWHERE!

We did allot of glue projects this week. I think I have a glue fanatic on my hands!

Feeling quite confident with cutting scissors as of late!

Finished Curtains

Undecided if I like them or not. But I did finish the curtains. Hoping this helps the kitchen not be quite sooooo hot this summer.

L is for Llama

We did TONS of projects this week and I only took two pictures... Oh well! Lydia really really really got into painting. Infact not sure we had a day last week where we did not finger paint or paint with a brush multiple times. Perfect toddler week.

We were watching the rain fall one day and decided to make "rain inside". Note to self, food coloring at the table that is on carpet is a bit foolish. But we conquerored (and food coloring when scrubbed quickly enough does come out of carpet!!!).

Lydia did a bit of cutting. But then she realized there was still white space on the paper and needed to pull out the paint to remedy that problem.

We even had to paint our fingernails and toes multiple times.

Maybe with all this painting that Lydia is doing, I should get her a gallon of paint and let her paint the new baby's room ;)

We had fun playing paper dolls this week too. I think we have the best paper dolls in the neighborhood after last week! Lydia came up to me very sad and devestated one afternoon because her paper doll was soooooo sleepy but did not have a "real bed". We fixed that problem.

Lydia's Declarations

Lydia decided this morning that she wanted me to read her a story. Typically not a deal but I was washing dishes and needed "2 minutes". Lydia told me this was fine I could read her the story while I wash dishes and sits down with her book. Looks at me impatiently, "I will turn the pages so you don't get them wet". SO I started making up a story about Clifford. This theory probably would have worked EXCEPT Lydia has this particular book memorized (I basically have it memorized but obviously not word for word!). After stopping me to tell me "read the right story", we talked about how I can not see the words on the page. I showed her how letters make words on the page and by this point I was finished washing dishes and able to properly read the story.

I did not think much more of this conversation and after reading books Lydia got dressed and I jumped in the shower. A few minutes later Lydia peeks her head into the shower with this declaration, "Mom, all of my books have letters inside of them". And then as if I did not know this she proceeded to parade her books into the bathroom to show me this great discovery.

It is the little things in life but today every book in this house is on the floor because the toddler has discovered "there are letters in all the books". AND "some books do not have pictures" she says with a quizzical look.

Lydia and James Strike Again!

This face kinda sums up Lydia's outlook on life the last couple weeks :(

"Yes, Lydia I am done with this game!"

Storybook Ball

We went to the Storybook Ball at the library this weekend. SO much fun! There was dancing, crafts, games, and where Lydia chose to spend her time - a quiet corner listening to stories. We were very surprised that is where she ended up spending the most time. Sadly, I forgot the camera and neither James or I brought our phones! There were tons of cute photo opportunities had we remembered a camera ;)
Being Transformed into "Fancy Nancy".

And in typical Fancy Nancy style, Lydia needed to do her own hair. Her special night so she got to do her hair herself!

"I really really am Fancy Nancy".

And after all great evenings, a stop for a milkshake is a must!

K is for Koala!

We really really really got into painting this week! Not sure a day went by when we did not have the paints out atleast once.

Mother's Day Projects

Dot Art - Find a Shape

Cutting - still a favorite but took a backseat to painting ;)

Getting the last of the pink paint from the top! Can't waste precious pink paint...

Out of pink, what color should I use??? PURPLE!!!!!

Glorious Special Day!

Some days you just don't get out of your PJ's! (Yes, we did brush her teeth and comb her hair!!!!). Lydia was needing a special day with her "Daddy". SO she got a special day with her Daddy. Donuts for breakfast. Maxed out her screen time by 9AM. Long bike ride. A trip to the library. Picnic on the porch.

Did I mention this was a perfect Lydia day???

She wears her helmet all day lately!

One brown shoe and one purple shoe ofcourse on the wrong feet! Socks pulled up really high.

Playing with her Fun noodles in the back yard.

The smile says it all!

Close up of the shoes!

Oh, James and Lydia!

I think James and Lydia had a wonderful time with the camera this weekend!

"What have I been doing for the past 20 minutes???"
